Election Reflection

Well, the UK Parliamentary election was a bit of a mixed bag. Some good things came as a result:

  • Significantly reduced Labour majority. Time for a strategy rethink from them, I feel, hopefully involving ditching the 'special relationship' Blair has with George Bush.
  • Failure for the Tories to form the next government. I'd rather have Tory Lite than Full Fat Tories.
  • Resignation of Michael Howard. Nasty man.
  • Much-improved polling for the Lib Dems, including Jenny Willott taking Cardiff Central (I did her website four years ago, when she was beaten by 650 votes). At last they're getting taken seriously.
  • The failure of UKIP and Veritas (the Kilroy Ego Massage Party) to make any impact. Of course, the fact the BNP haven't got an MP is good, but it's scary that so many racist fuck-heads bother voting for them in the first place - one of their candidates took almost 17% of the vote. What's wrong with this picture?
But things that are a bit of a disappointment:
  • Tories gaining seats, especially at the expense of the Lib Dems. We remember the 80s, and we don't want them back!
  • Tory MPs in Wales. Don't want 'em.
  • Lib Dems not getting more seats. I was hoping for closer to 100.
All parties are claiming a victory. Labour; they're back in charge. Tories; they're not entirely dead (yet). Lib Dems; best Liberal vote for 80 years.

Funny things from the election:That's all for now. Politics will return to this blog at the Welsh Assembly elections.

Well, here's an interesting thing... There's something strange in the new political map for the UK...

There's a Welsh Dragon shape rising out of Wales into the rest of the mainland...
