How to waste £30 (plus shipping)

I've been after a pocket TV for a while, for one purpose only - to hook up to the video output on my Ikea PC (preferably internally) and SNES. And I got outbid on repeated occasions on eBay. Then I had a bright idea - rather than go for a TV, with all that pointless analogue tuning which is going to be redundant in a few years, why not pick up one of those nifty LCD screens that you get for bolting onto the back of a console? They were cheaper, had larger (and better) screens and were designed specifically for displaying computer outputs.

Thirty quid (plus shipping) later, I was the proud owner of a Sony branded PSOne TFT screen. Minus a power adaptor. Never mind, surely I could find a 7.5V source to run it... and I did. So I plugged in the plug and heard a nasty big pop from inside the case, and realised with that sort of sinking stomach thing that the 7.5V DC plug wasn't the one I had in my hand - that was on the floor - and I'd actually shoved a high-power 10.3V AC supply into it instead. Bollocks. And it was now dead.

There's the insides, getting ready to be binned. What's really annoying is the quality of the screen is incredible - you can tell that just by looking closely in the light - and the little speakers are great as well. It just helps if you don't do the equivalent to the control circuitry of microwaving a grape. Now I'm £30 (plus shipping) worse off, and no closer to my little screen aceness. Grrrr!

It's probably only a blown capacitor, I could probably get that repaired for you ya know.
