Jeremy Won

The right man won. Jeremy Deller is, without doubt, the most accessible artist to win the Turner Prize... ever, I think. There's still a core of people complaining bitterly that this means their holiday videos are art now... but then maybe they are.

It was nice to be included in the thanks (as someone who's worked with him before, and as someone who will hopefully work with him again). The competition was pretty good this year, coming from Yinka Shonibare especially. We saw his work at the Tate in the same exhibition as Jeremy's Folk Art exhibit in 2000, and it's amazing stuff.

I used to hate contemporary art - I think it's washed in a bad light though. For every attention grabber like Tracey Emin and Damien Hurst there's loads of Shonibares and Dellers producing really interesting, thoughtful and, occasionally, completely stunning work. The sooner the Daily Mail Brigade can accept that, rather than dismissing it all, the better.

Hallo Steve. It's Penny. Remember me? I've still got my photos from Unconvention somewhere. You finally made it to Ponty, then? I'm not really using Blogger yet, keep my personal blog elsewhere, but I'm going to use it for doing the news on my main site when I finish redesigning it. If I can make it work... Get in touch, please, I've really missed you.
